Sitting at Great Bridge, VA October 29, 2011

We remain at Great Bridge.  We had the boat hauled day before yesterday and had the propeller lubricated, but after we were back in the water we still had the problem.  Yesterday we ordered a new twin blade fixed propeller which hopefully should be here on Tuesday and installed Tuesday afternoon.

Weather has turned cool with a major low stirring things up on the east coast.  A major Nor'easter is going to hit New England tonight with storm force winds and snow.  We are running our little space heater like mad as the wind howls here.  Fortunately the rain has stopped and it should be cool and sunny tomorrow.

We are at the Atlantic Yacht Basin and they specialize in working and storing some classic boats.

Great Bridge, VA on the ICW October 26, 2011

Leaving Hampton, VA this morning and heading across Hampton Roads to travel to the ICW we are 2 days south of Solomons and off the Chesapeake.  It has been very windy between 15 and 20 knots for the last couple of days

 Passing the Norfolk Naval Yard
Here was Warship 72 being escorted in for yard work.  We got stuck behind her for an hour and were finally able to pass when she had to stop mid channel
This was the crowd of boats heading south and we all jammed up in the Great Bridge Lock.

Here is the bridge at Great Bridge.  We stopped in a marina just to the south of the bridge.  We started experiencing problems with our propeller and are going to have the boat hauled out the water tomorrow afternoon to investigate what is going on.  This is the last good marina for 200 miles so we need to stop.  There is also some significant weather coming so we may stay here for a couple of days in any event.

September 2011 Solomons, MD - In the water again!!!!

After two years Jabberwocky is back in the water again. We had an interesting logistics problem as she was at one marina with her mast down as we making changes on it. That marina could not put the mast up for us as it is too long and heavy. So we had to load the mast as "cargo" and take it to a close by marine that had a really large crain to get it up as you can see in the photos.

Close shot of the mast with cross braces and saw horses.

The crain starting the process of raising the mast. Besides the crain operator there were three folks on deck to set the mast in place.

Almost there!

We are going back to Maryland in a couple of days to get the boat fully operational and then leave and head south most likely the last week of October.
