June 1, 2012 Charleston, SC

We spent the day walking around the historic district of Charleston, primarily around the many churches that are in the heart of the city. Below is "The Circular Church" which looks like a castle with turrets .

Almost all of these churches have old graveyards nestled close to the church.
The historic city is known as the "holy city" because of the many churches. Below is St. Philips which we could see when we were walking through the grave yard of the Circular Church.
Below is the Huguenot Church. While we were staying in Charleston, there was a music festival which is held for 2 weeks every year. Some of these churches had concerts and other entertainment venues as part of the musical festival.
Almost all the homes had lush planters outside the front door. Below is another example of the beautiful presentation these planters displayed.
Below is a cobblestone road which provided more ambiance to the historic district. However, after walking most of the day along the city streets , the cobble stones were not a welcome" feel" for my feet!
When we got to the harbor it was refreshing to cool off next to the several fountains that provided a cooling playground for the kids in the neighborhood. I had to hold Lee back when he wanted to cool off in the fountain. Before heading back to our boat, we had a cool beer in one of the local restaurants. The marina where we were staying had a convenient shuttle service which we used every day to drop us off on our tourist destination and pick us up after the end of our day.
