Provincetown, MA 6 August 2007

We left Boothbay, Maine on Sunday at noon and had a 20 hour sail ( we motored because of lack of favorable winds) to Provincetown, MA. We had calm seas and a brilliant star lit night with the moon rising at 11 pm to cast a silver pathway on the sea. We saw three falling stars during the night. Not much traffic. A few sail boats and fishing boats and one freighter as we approached Boston shipping lanes. It was hard to spot whales during the night but we saw a few "Blow Spouts" in the distance after sunrise.

This is the rocky coast line in Bar Harbor. We took a trolley tour bus ride along the coast and stopped at Thunder Hole which has the seas "thundering in the hallows of a cliff."

I captured this picture of Gordon getting on board from our dingy after a trip into town.

The trolley ride in Bar Harbor took us to the top of "Cadillac Mountain" which is the highest cliff on Mt. Desert Island and is part of Arcadia National Park.

We took our dingy for a ride along this small island in Somes Harbor ( a low tide island) at the foot of the fjord we anchored at for a few days. This is the island at low tide. We saw a few seals in the fjord but they were too quick for us to capture on our camera. White winged Scoter ducks and a Loon kept us company at our anchorage.

A view of the coast of Maine from Mt. Cadillac. The woodlands contain birch, aspen and oak trees as well as a variety of pine trees. Arcadia's landscape is a result of glacial ice which carved the cliffs and the fjord. Samuel Chaplain claimed the land as Isle des Monts Deserts in 1604.

The pink granite cliffs along the coast.

Sun rise as we approached Provincetown, Ma.

A few of cottages in Provincetown Harbor from our mooring.
