Pocasset Harbor, Cape Cod, MA 7 July 2007

We travelled up Buzzards Bay today to spend the night about 4 miles from the Cape Cod Canal. This canal is about 8 miles long and goes from the NE end of Buzzards Bay and comes out in Cape Cod Bay by Sandwich, MA. The canal was build to avoid the long trek around Cape Cod for many small and medium sized commercial vessels. The tides run hard at about 4 to 5 knots and we have to wait until about 10 tomorrow morning to catch a favorable current east bound.

We stopped here in Pocasset Harbor. One of the local sailors invited us to take a mooring whose owner was away for a while. This made getting settled in for the evening a lot easier. The gentleman's name was Todd and he is vice commodore of the Ocean Cruising Club. We chatted about the OCC's origins and local activities for a few minutes.

A bit breezy in the late afternoon on the bay. This used to be our sailing grounds and you could always depend on a stiff breeze with a SW wind on a summer afternoon usually to 20 plus knots.
The famous Cleveland Ledge Light that my US Sail and Power Squadron Advanced Piloting Students will remember from the 1210 TR Chart!

Off to Provence Town at the tip of the Cape tomorrow.
