July 3, 2009 Hampton, VA

We spent Sunday June 28 and Monday June 29 visiting some of the Smithsonian Museums. First we went to the Archives to see the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights as well as several other exhibits. Then off to see the Museum of American History which had been closed for renovation when we were here last year. The following day we saw a new museum the American Indian Museum-the building looks like the cliffs of the Pueblo Indians with a modern architect twist. We stopped at the National Art Museum to see a visiting exhibit of ornate Spanish Armour from Charles V in the 1500s. The mall had a Caribbean Folk Festival and down the street was a Barbecue Grill Off an annual charity event-so we packed in a lot during the two days in Washington, DC. We then headed back down the Potomac and then south on the Chesapeake Bay. Today we will be heading out to the Atlantic and will follow the coast to Sandy Hook, N. J. which will be about a 48 hour run.
