A beautiful warm day with calm winds and wonderful autumn scenery. It is understandable why many artists paint the Hudson River Valley as the towering cliffs and mansions on the hillsides are lovely. We traveled to Haverstraw, NY which is just south of Westpoint. We had to make it a short day because of the awkward distances between available marinas. We will have a long run tomorrow. We spent the afternoon setting-up our jib sail and other odds and ends, preparing for sailing on the Atlantic. Tomorrow we make run past NY City and stop at Sandy Hook, New Jersey which is south of the "Battery".

Hudson River as it narrows between the hills toward West Point. This was a small island in the River.

The towering clifts along the river. At the bottom of the clifts we watched the Amtrak train like a silver bullet speed past us on one side of the river and long, long, long freight trains slowly pulling their loads along the edge of the clifts. Meanwhile we were skirting around tug boats and their barges.

Westpoint Military academy. It looks impressive as it is situated on the high clifts in a narrow part of the river. It looks like a strategic location for George Washington's troops defending the area. It is not hard to imagine all of the revolutionary battles that took place in the Hudson Valley and surrounding areas.

This is Bear Mountain bridge. One of the more picturesque bridges on the river.

I'm so glad to see you into open waters. The view along the Hudson peeks my interest. I have researched in the past that cruise liner you observed and have an interest in the trips they offer and now I'm even more interested.
